A whole month

A whole month has gone by and not a post from me. This is been an amazingly busy time of the year. The new baby dog is getting bigger and bigger. She is presenting us with more than her share of challenges. (Housetraining and a more determined attitude than we had expected) I'm not sure what we expected. (I'm also not sleeping too much due to the fact that the girl gets up at 5:00 a.m.

My wonderful little boy graduated from preschool this month with all the pomp and circumstance that is entailed. Cap and gown or rather cap and t-shirt. It was one of the most adorable things I had ever seen. (I know, I'm his mom.) Mom's are supposed to feel this way. I didn't even feel guilty about having the best seat with the best view of him.

Anyway, the knitting has been horrible. One pair of socks and a baby hat is the sum total of the month of May I just realized that I haven't taken a picture of the baby hat (I will include later).

The socks were hard. Harder than they had to bee. I'm really not good at the heel. I can do the regular heel, but these and the one of Fanny was really hard for me to do. The wrapping and turning made it really difficult.

Yarn: Crystal Palace Bunny Hop
Pattern: Speckled Rib Socks
Needles: US 5

Here I am complaining about socks that are knit on size 5 needles. They should have taken me a day instead of a month. I've casted on a shawl and I'm going to try some lace. I'd post pics but it just looks like nothing now.

Baby hat to come....more posts soon

The New Baby

Well after much waiting for the rescue organization. We are not a patient people. Uncle Jimmy had quite enough and helped us find our new baby:

Her name is Mayday, She is 10 weeks old and we got her yesterday. Her first night went really well and right now she is relaxing in the sun room while I post her pictures.

She is the sweetest little thing, which is why I had to pick out the very stylish pink collar and leash.

I hope she likes knitting. I'll have more posts and pics later.

Here is the dog update

We were approved to adopt and we have been waiting to find out about availability for the dog that I had fallen hopelessly in love with. I would visit her picture every morning on the Internet after spending the night before dreaming of our long walks together. Her name was Pearl. How perfect.

Anyway...in the last week a lot of "Adoption Pending" tags were put up on the website and I prayed that Pearl would be spared. (I know I'm being dramatic, what did you expect.) Pearl is being adopted by someone else.

There is hope for another dog, or so we thought. A 5 1/2 month old female. I got excited, waited for pictures and now the person who has the dog thinks she might want to give her to someone else. I don't think I can take much more of this. This is worse than dating!!! (Will he call, won't he call, does he like me?)

I'm trying to be patient. I'm making the people at the rescue organization laugh. At least I think they are laughing...

In the meantime here are some more socks.

Pattern: Fanny from Socktopia (It is a really cook KAL)
Yarn: Cascade Fixation (the elastic was a little tricky)
Needles: Knitpicks US3 (One of which broke halfway through sock #2. Knitpicks is replacing it)

Keep a good thought for the puppy and me.

On Target for April

I joined the 52 Pair Plunge thinking it would be nice if I could make 52 pairs of socks in a year but I may not. I can't believe I'm on target. I've made four pairs of socks in April and I will have another pair finished before the end of the month! I'm stunned and feeling kind of wonderful about it at the same time.

I also have plans for a couple of other projects. I really want to knit a lace shawl;. I want to experience blocking lace. I also find the need as I get older and with the weight loss I'm always cold. I mean I'm now the person hoping they turn the air conditioning down in restaurants. I'm old before my time.

Here is my fourth pair for this month:

Pattern: Simple Ribbed Socks
Yarn: Art Yarns Color #132
Needles: Knitpicks US3
On the dog front, we are still waiting. When we finally get her I am going to paper this blog with pictures of the new addition.
Have a great day!

Back from the Vineyard

Hi! I'm back from Martha's Vineyard. We went to help my parents open their house for the season. The weather was terrible and the company was great. My sister and her girls went and we had a great time. I'm almost done with another pair of socks and I'm dipping my toe into a baby hat and sweater (NOT FOR ME!) A friend is having a baby.

I'll post an update tomorrow

Bye

Knitting along and waiting

Here are the Art Yarn socks:

They are simple ribbed short socks. Done on Knitpicks US3 circs. I ended up with a ball of yarn the size of a piece of bubble gum. There was much rejoicing in the house as I finished the toes. I thought I was going to run out and would have to destroy both socks in order to knit again. I had thought of setting fire to the yarn and then the moment of blasphemy passed. (I put my head down!)

We are still waiting to hear from the rescue organization as to whether the dog that we are interested in is available. This process takes forever. I know that it is a good thing But patience is not one of my virtues and I just want a dog NOW!

I have also gotten really attached to a dog on their site and I would like to know if that girl is available. I'm so superstitious that I won't even link to their site because on the off chance that anyone in the world reads this and checks it out I may miss out on her! I know I have reached a new level of insanity.

Maybe we will get the call today from the dog's foster parents. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Finally...

Here are the finshed (unblocked) Dublin Bays for my sister. The sun was out I couldn't wait to take the photo.

Spring is coming to CT. We have a Noreaster coming tomorrow so I'm enjoying the weather today!

Here are the Dublin Bays relaxing inside..

Yarn: Opal Uni Solid in Cornflower
Needles: Knitpicks Circulars US 1
Pattern: Dublin Bay from Mossy Cottage

I've finished one of the Artyarns and have casted on Number two...Maybe more pics this weekend!!

Friday the 13th

Hello. What an amazing week. I've finally finished the Dublin Bay socks for my sister and have two pairs of worsted weight socks ready for the needles. I also have to finish the art yarns and the mountain colors and I'm well on my way to the 52PP! I will take pictures of the Dublin Bays tomorrow (It is very cloudy here in CT) They are expecting cold and sun tomorrow.

Then rain and possibly snow on Sunday! Is this weather out of hand or what?

I have other great news! We were accepted for adoption from the Rescue Organization and we will be getting a dog in the next couple (two or three weeks) I'm so excited!!! We did the Vet Check, the phone interview, the Home visit and now we are approved. My husband keeps making sure that at the end of this we will be getting just a dog (not a baby). I like to keep him a little nervous.

The boys are really excited about our new arrival. We even went to the pet store to preview collars and leashes. (I've kind of lost my mind a little.)

Spring break for the kids is next week and we are thinking of going to the Vineyard. My mom and dad will be there and we could help them prepare for summer. I'd like to get out of town for a few days, but we don't know what the weather is going to bring.

This post is starting to ramble so I update with all of the news tomorrow as well as sunny pics!

Happy Saturday!

At least I think its happy. We have had a really busy week here. Getting ready for the holidays and a spring break trip to Marthas Vineyard. Lots of work to do on the island to get ready for summer.

I have three pairs of socks in the works. I will post picks tomorrow while I am cooking Easter dinner. As soon as I finish them I will update SAM3 and 52PP. I still can't believe I joined the 52 pair plunge! What was I thinking. I guess I got caught up in the moment.

I have not finished the sweater for March Sweater Madness and I am so embarrased. Thse women did such a great job and all I wanted to do was set the darn sweater on fire. I will finish and stop lurking and come out of the knitting mist to post a pic and an apology.

I found this great etsy shop calle weeones that makes stich markers. I'll get the link posted soon. Oh and we had our home visit for the dog and we are waiting to see if we are approved to adopt a rescue. I was really proud of myself that I didn't tackle the womand and yell "Give me a dog!!" I'm in love with a picture on their site and I just want to get this thing moving. We should find out this week.

I will post again tomorrow. I have some thoughts on posting that I need to share as well.

Springtime in Paris est fini

I finished the Springtime in Paris socks! I really liked this pattern. It knitted up really quickly.

I went to a new yarn shop in Stratford called Janet Kemp and fell in love with some Opal in light blue that I thought would be great for my sister, so my stash has been enhanced again!
I casted on some socks with the new Opal and I'm deciding if its working before I post a pic.
Tomorrow we are having our home visit to adopt a rescue dog, so we are keeping our fingers crossed. Hopefully we will get a dog and I will be able to post pics of her. (It will be a her!)

Update

I'm halfway through the Springtime in Paris sock for the Six Sox KAL. (Button to be added shortly to the sidebar!) Here it is. I also have a car sock and an upstairs sock on the needles, kind of plain ribbed socks, one in Mountain Bearfoot and one in Art Yarns sock yarn. They will be short too, just because I may run out if I make "tall" socks!

I'm trying to get bvack to the sweater, but I haven't had a lot of time to sit and knit in one place. The sweater is a bigger project and I've been knitting in cars, the doctors office etc. I am going to finish that by the end of the month though!!

Long time...

It has been a long time since I've been able to post. We had a major bout of illness run through the family as well as my little ones birthday and the associated parties. I've been knitting through it all and will post pics this afternoon.

I will also share the sweater from hell with you.

See you later

Update

OK Here is the update. I finished my Koigu socks

Pattern: Cat Bordhi's Socks Soar On Two Circular Needles - Columbine Peak
Wool: Koigu KPPM
Needles Addi Size 2

I also posted to March Sweater Madness and showed them my sleeve, and we will see where we go from there.

I feel good knowing that all of these things have been updated. Now I can sleep!

Sweaters, and Socks and Strep Oh My!

Currently three out of four members of my household have strep throat right now. One is getting tested on his way home from work. So this is not turning out to be the best week ever. I am so late on all of my posting and taking pictures and everything else. I have managed to read all of the blogs that I love and need to attach their links to this blog so if anyone ever reads it they might also see where I go during the day.

I finished my March Koigu socks and need to post a picture here as well SAM3 KAL. I have started a sweater for March Sweater Madness. I have one sleeve almost finished. I'm not going to win BUT I may finish a sweater in March. Yeah!

People have also been making sock requests like crazy...

You know what I'm going to go and take pictures now.

Tuesday

We had a snow day yesterday so the kids were off from school for yet another day. I was a mom at the end of my rope so I decided not to post. I worked a little on the socks that I have left for February ( I will update pics later)

I'm trying to come up with my March socks for SAM3 KAL. I was completely intimidated by the person who has made three pairs in Feb. I'm so jealous. My revelation came that I just want to get better at knitting. I'm not sure where it is going to take me.

When I spoke to Berta last week, she said that I had to get focused. So that is what I'm going to focus on. Becoming a better knitter. Baby steps...I'm also going to get control over my eating, which should go easier now that the kids are back in school and I can resume my regular shopping schedule. More leafy greens yeah!!!

I have to go and pick up a package for Jim at his accountant, so I will post more later.

p.s. I'm still waiting for the arrival of my wool for March Sweater Madness..I'm starting to stress!!

Search for quiet

It is the end of Winter vacation and I long for an hour or two to knit. Just knit. I woke up really early this morning and worked on some socks in peace. Peace and quiet. No TV's blaring in the other room, no Nintendo DS whining its theme song from the stairs behind the couch...just quiet. It was wonderful.

Then the kids woke up.

I got a lot done on the socks I'm working on. Pictures will follow next week.

Look what came in the mail

The sock yarn that I ordered from Union Center Knits arrived today. I've never felt anything so soft. I can't wait to get it on my needles. I have to finish that Koigu sock in the next few days so I can get started over the weekend.

I had been lamenting to my husband my problems about wanting to finish the Koigu's quickly, but not so quickly that they wouldn't count for my March socks in the SAM3 KAL and after the mail arrived he dryly commented that my problem had been solved. He knows me way too well.

Here is a picture. The color is Copper Compromise:

I'll be taking the kids to one of those kid friendly places to play today. The weather is warming up, but not so much that they could go outside. Most of the snow that we got last week is turninng to slush so I'm off to "Kiddieville" to watch them run around like madmen!.

Have a great day.

Did someone say winter vacation?

Here it is winter vacation from school! A blessing and a curse. I love to have the boys around BUT sometimes they can be a little high spirited.

Here is the first sock. I'm trying to finish them in February. Which is kind of insane because I will have to come up woith another pair for my March socks for the SAM3 KAL. I'm so conflicted.

I also promised pics of my stash building from Jim (my best friend). Here they are:

The brown and the red are Opal and the light blue is Trekking XXL.

I'm so happy to be done with one of those socks and I have some wrist warmers that I need to make for myself. I'm hoping that this will be a good knitting week.

More later...

Too long...

OK, it has been a long time since I posted. I have been suffering through a knitting drought. I have been ripping out project after project and have learned that knitting guage swatches is not my thing.

I have acquired some lovely new yarn for stash...thank you Jim. I will take pictures later. I've started a new pair of socks and want to get back to them. I will post more later

My run to the store

Did I mention that I was going to my LYS. Well, I first have to say that I have the most wonderful husband. After watching me walk aimlessly around the house after dropping my son off for school, he asked what I was working on. When he found out that I had nothing on my needles, he volunteered to pick up at school so I could fulfill my urge to knit. Isn't he wonderful.

So here is what I picked up.

This is Koigu KPPPM. It is so gorgeous I can't even believe it!

This is Plymouth Sockotta. It reminded me of summer and with the weather that we have been having lately thinking of warm weather is a good thing.

I'm so ecxited. I need to start knitting.

Too much thinking!

That is what I'm guilty of...too much thinking. I've joined SAM3 and I've looked at all of the other socks that everyone is making and of course mine are crap! I'm not sure why I psych myself out this way but I do and now is the time to get over it.

I've spent the better part of the morning going through my stash and trying to find something that I really want to work with. I'm afraid that I don't have enough of anything to make a cohesive pair of socks.

The answer could be a run to my local yarn shop.....more later!

Here are the socks that I finished for February. I have to post them to the other site in a minute. They are knitted in worsted weight yarn and are a gift for a friend of mine.

The First

This is my very first posting and to be honest I'm a little nervous. This blog was set up because I joined the Sock a Month KAL and wanted to have a place to post pictures etc. We will see how this goes!

As of now I have finished my first pair of socls for February and after looking at the pictures on the other blog I feel as though they are really boring. I'm looking into new patterns for my second Feb pair that will probably be finished in March.
